Growing up today is tough and growing up in the heart of Los Angeles is even tougher. Our kids are confronting realities and pressures that we could never have imagined during our own formative years.I have nearly 15 years of experience working with children and teens. In addition to my LCSW, I hold a Pupil Personnel Services Credential which I received after extensive training in issues faced by my school aged clients. I also spent eight years supervising clinical services within LAUSD. In short, I speak kid/teenager language.
Kids and teenagers don't always have the words to tell us what's bothering them, but as a parent you can look for the signs. Are they tearful, irritable, or angry? Are they struggling to find the right peer group? Or maybe you're noticing a change in your once easy going son or daughter that seems more intense than typical growing pains.
I tell parents that one of the most vital gifts that they can give their children is the gift of resiliency. The core belief that even if life gets hard, we have tools to not just survive, but to thrive. Therapy for your son or daughter can help them build this toolbox, providing them with a foundation of coping skills that will serve them far beyond these early years.
Issues that I address in treatment include:
- Anxiety and specific phobias
- Depression and other mood disorders
- Self- esteem, peer conflict, bullying
- Behavioral issues
- Eating disorders
